Hello Again Isla Mujeres

Back in Rio Dulce, we made the plan of sailing to Utila, Roatan and then to Isla Mujeres. We were flexible about the itinerary, as most sailors are. There was the possibility at any stop that we would collectively just want to stay put. But, as sailors often do, we were more prone to view the horizon with interest.

So, instead of the three-stop voyage, we have done Utila, Roatan, Puerto Aventuras to end in Isla Mujeres. We all have our own memories of Isla Mujeres and are happy to add to them. Michelle has been here so often she has lost count. The sail here was all motoring into a north wind which made the ride choppy. We arrived just after sunset so we anchored out with another sailboat and a couple of motor yachts. The next day, we confirmed a slip was available for us in El Milagro Resort and Marina. Hello again to a marina we love!

Cervezas at Captain’s

We did a golf cart tour of the island yesterday. We did some beachcombing for sea glass on the east side. We then went to Punta Sur. The park has several colorful Mayan statues and a great walk along the gorgeous south end coral cliffs.

We stopped for lunch at Rincon de Frida. The restaurant has lots of colorful Frida artwork and Jake and I ordered Frida’s favorite dish – Sopa de Azteca. Delicious. Ana, our beautiful waitress with a lovely smile, was told about how I had just had my first ever Tequila shot for my recent birthday. Of course, she treated us to free Tequila shots since I have a lot of catching up to do Tequila-wise.

Michelle and I in the back of the golf cart. We had a great view when the golf cart rolled back into a couple of guys on a motorcycle. No harm done!

Beautiful blues

We ended the golf cart tour at the popular North beach where we had sundowner cocktails. We happened to see a Fountaine Pajot very similar to ours taking on about 40 charter passengers. Captain Randall cringed at the idea of so many people on a 40-foot boat. Our maximum number of passengers ever aboard Nyango at once stands about 9 and Randall doesn’t plan to top that number.

The art of the island is amazing. There are beautiful murals everywhere but also so much eye-catching tilework, paint colors, buildings, food displays and boats. Mexico is just really a feast for the eyes and stomach. And we continue to appreciate new music. Jake has been singing a new song in which the singer is talking about how grateful he is for his mother-in-law. Danny, if you are reading, rest assured I will learn it first and teach you when I get there. But if you want to get started right away, here is a link to the song: https://youtu.be/Sd8qFu-KenA?si=8Z3hF5zwcZyo3RJS

This is my favorite mural on the island so far. Wow!

The statue above was a cool representation of a Mayan writer at work on a codex. We often end the day talking about what little cool things we have seen while we went our separate ways. And, we have recently started playing spades in the evenings. Michelle finds our scorekeeping highly suspicious.

This church sets up on a cliff overlooking the east coast line. The back wall of the church is a huge window overlooking the ocean. It does make one contemplate greater things.

I appreciate the video link. I was just thinking that telling Faye everyday that i appreciate her is not good enough, so I think this song will help me express myself. However I think Tammy and I should do a duet when you all get back
