We have probably given people the impression that traveling by bus is only for real road warriors like us willing to dehydrate themselves in the name of budget travel. So it is funny that yesterday, we got off the bus in San Miguel de Allende and Randall said, “I am not traveling by airplane anymore. That was great.”

We took the ETN bus from Queretaro to San Miguel in surprising comfort. Cushy, reclining seats with lots of room and even foot rests. I watched “The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir” on a personal screen on the backside of the seat in front of me, laughing every few minutes. Both the movie and the bus line get a big 👍.

We arrived too early to check into our Airbnb so we got ice cream and I sat down and started a drawing of the famous Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel. This is not a “cathedral” because it does not have a bishop residing here. It is apparently known for being constructed by an indigenous bricklayer who copied a German cathedral which he had a postcard of. The stone is from a local volcano and gives the building such beautiful pink and orange tones.

Our room is small but in a great location. It has a common area for hanging out and so far we have had it to ourselves. It is on the second floor above a coffee shop and has a rooftop terrace overlooking the city.

I have been snapping pictures of these pretty paper flowers to send Lily. She is making flowers as a project for the ECU Student Government Valentine’s Day. I haven’t done any shopping and the stores here seem very upscale.

The restaurant scene is mind boggling. We have noticed it is more expensive to eat out here but there are plenty of street food and cheap market food stands. We had brunch this morning in the market and also brought home some carnitas de puerco (slow cooked pork) for later.

That last line made me spit my coffee out. Looks like a great place. I noticed Randall is in winter gear. Is your location at a high altitude?
Haha you would like the knockers here too Danny. It is cool in the morning but really nice once the sun is up. We are at 6200 feet but I don’t think it gets below freezing all that often. Miss y’all and hope all is well.
Such a fun, informative post Tam! San Miguel looks like a great way to spend a few days or perhaps even live there.
Yes there are such beautiful properties but they seem pricey. Wish you were here. We have done tons of walking! You would enjoy that except the stone sidewalks can be slick.
