We hiked around Weedon Island Preserve yesterday. Its a 3000-acre island of swampy mangroves with hiking trails and boardwalks through the upper canopy and kayak streams cutting through the watery understory. The educational center was very interesting with lots of hands-on activities to learn about the ecosystem and the Indians which once called the Island home. You could also check out a backpack containing a bird book, binoculars and trail map. If it would have had bug-spray, it would truly cover the unprepared. We got some mosquito and no-see-um bites but it was worth the scenery. We got back just in time for Lily’s date with her friend, Ms. Becky, to make clothes for Kitty. Yes, kitty still goes almost everywhere but now she will travel much more stylishly. Becky is a teacher who lives in the marina and is always ready for fun with the kids and the kids-at-heart. Elizabeth joined in the fashion design session but had to leave at 6 p.m. to open up her lemonade stand. She has been working the Saturday morning crowd but, this weekend, she cleverly switched hours to work the Saturday just-in-from-a-hot-sail crowd. Lily ended up behind the Lemonade stand, too, and they did very well. I suspect Hard Lemonade would sell well, too, but we are going to keep things tame for our little entrepreneurs.
We spent most of today fishing. Randall, Lily and Sam caught 10+ little croaker and pin fish. Nothing big but still great fun. They spotted both a manatee and a sting ray right here in the marina basin. Lily is spending the evening at Sam and Emily’s so Randall and I can celebrate 23 years of sickness, health, poor times, rich times, fun, fights, apologies, two sweet babies growing too fast, running a business and wondering what is around the next bend. I love you, Randall and thanks for everything… even & especially the unexpected. It has been wonderful to be loved, fun to be surprised and a beautiful, happy 23 years.
Hey Tammy and Randall – Happy Anniversary! Your blog is getting very sophisticated! Tammy – so glad you are actually referring to yourself as a “writer” – INDEED! I love reading about your adventures! Keep ’em coming!
Thanks, Laura. Sorry I took so long to blog but your comment makes me smile every time I read it (just 7-8 times a day). I was so glad to see you while up in Blanchard. We are probably headed back that way so will give you a call in July to see what you’re doing.
