Home Sweet Boat

We made it home on Saturday via Uber, airplane, taxi, ferry and feet. Kind of a long day and we were grateful to have not missed the last few ferry time slots to Isla.

Our Valentine’s dinner was a perfect way to end our trip last Friday. We had been on the lookout in Queretaro for the restaurant we wanted to celebrate at. It got narrowed down to La Nación, a more upscale place with outdoor seating by a beautiful plaza, or the Black Pig, a burger joint known for gourmet ribeye burgers with interesting add-ons. They were both completely different but also both very tempting. La Nación won us over with the added attraction of live music.

This sushi place was interesting but not in the running for the Valentine’s day dinner. We saw it the next day while walking from the gym.

The strolling singer at La Nación sang “Besame mucho” while we enjoyed our drinks.

I used to know the words to this song pretty well but have gotten a little rusty. So when I was googling the song to remind myself of the lyrics, I came across a Beatles cover of Besame Mucho. What a funny surprise. I am curious if they were singing an English translation or more made up some English lyrics. The words seemed s little different from a translation but I haven’t taken the time to really compare.

We also had some fancy homemade and colorful chocolates. When we were asking about the differences, he only knew the Spanish terms for the flavors so eating the chocolates was also a guessing game for the flavors.

Before we left for the airport the next day, we got a workout in. We kept our every-other-day workout schedule during the entire trip. One workout was in our room using weight bands we brought. The next workout was at a San Miguel park on some outdoor exercise equipment. Then we had two gym workouts -one in a small Guanajuato gym and the last in a larger Queretaro gym (below). Of course, the small gym was busy and the big gym wasn’t.

Walking back to our room to checkout and start for home, we stumbled into the Queretaro aqueduct. We had seen it from the taxi but had not walked that way during our many walks. It was fun to get to see it up close. It used to carry water to the local convent and, on its way, also charged a number of Queretaro fountains. It is no longer in use but the 79 arches of the aqueduct are still a majestic sight.

We have been relaxing on the boat since getting back. I took a big load of laundry down to the local laundry and it was closed. So I carried it another five blocks further hoping it would be open. Thankfully she was there and I didn’t have to carry dirty clothes all the way back.

Snake sighting. A guy who walked by said it looked like a “harmless” boa.

Randall is working on the windlass which gave us problems the last two times we anchored. I scrubbed on the starboard hull underwater yesterday so will dive down and scrub the port side today. And today is workout day, again! And I am keeping my one drawing a day commitment. I love trying to capture the colors of Mexico and find it pretty easy to sit and draw for 30-40 minutes.

The thought of birria tacos at Rinconcita Kahlo make my mouth water every time we walk by. Now my mouth will be watering when I open my sketchbook.
