Sunday Walk

We went for a Sunday stroll yesterday. It is hard to describe the chaos of walking through town here. For starters, the traffic zips by your side with alarming closeness. Especially the semi’s wheels, whose tires roll by so close to your toes kinda cringe at the thought of getting rolled over. Take note also of the treacherously uneven path. Walkers constantly move from the highway part to the lower walking path, negotiating a slippery slope that is easy to catch a sandal toe on.

There’s also the NOISE. Traffic noise, of course, but also the tuk-tuks that beep their horn at every gringo, hoping for a passenger. And then, even louder is the music coming from loudspeakers at every other tienda. Randall especially gets annoyed with that. As you might guess, it isn’t classical music they are sharing.

Lastly, there is often one or two mobile loudspeakers in action, usually mounted to a car but occasionally being carried right on someone’s back. This gentleman was preaching. I am not sure who could possibly be listening.

I still enjoy it. There is a lot of energy and people-watching entertainment. And there are quiet little places off the beaten path that, after fightening the Mainstreet chaos, seem even more tranquil.

We didn’t even know this church existed until yesterday. It is a little further away than we normally walk. There was some sort of service going on so we didn’t go inside. But I want to return to explore.

Meanwhile, dingy work continues. We can’t really figure out it’s problem. Cursing hasn’t helped but is still being tried. We need the dingy to get to some of the Margarita Monday spots that aren’t easy to walk to. As you can imagine, that’s high priority so work continues…..

Is that Nyango in the background? I think Randall would rather work on Dhingy motors than 40 year old sewers???
Can’t wait to hear if Margarita Monday gets accomplished!!! Are they pretty tasty?
I may use that picture to tell my Wednesday night kids how Guatemala spreads the Gospel!!!
Listen and see if you comprehendo!!
